Bonus Chapter! (fast forward chapter 3 extra)

“Morning Sophie!!” Sophie’s twelve year old sister, Maisy, jumped up from the kitchen table as she walked in.

Wrapping her arms around her, Sophie squeezed her tight before she finally let go and made her way back to the table.

“Do you need any help?” Sophie then asked her dad as he placed a kiss to her head.

“Nope, I’ve got it under control.” Arlo grinned while he was cooking about six different breakfasts.

After what had happened with Aaron the night before Sophie had come to her dad’s. With her mum away on business yet again, it seemed like a safe option as if Estee would have been there her advice would have been the complete opposite to Arlo’s and a lot less sensitive.

“He say’s he has it under control but I’ve seen smoke so many times.” Maisy called over, pushing her blonde hair from her shoulder.

“Smoke is an indication of good food Maisy Carter.” Arlo held the spatula over in her direction causing Sophie to roll her eyes.

“What’s up with you grumpy?” She then made her way to stand behind her fourteen-year old brother Cameron, whose eyes were glued to his phone.

“Nothing.” He shrugged his shoulders, not even looking up at her.

“He’s moody because he has girlfriend problems!” Maisy mocked with a bored look over her face. “He’s such a baby over it.”

Cameron was obviously so engrossed in his phone that he hadn’t taken any notice, so Maisy had got away with her not so subtle remark.

“What’s happened?” Sophie laughed, pulling up a chair beside her sister.

“His girlfriend is so needy and he is trying to make her happy. It’s so stupid because girls think they need to be like that and boys think they need to impress them all the time. My friends think the same but I don’t understand! They may as well just focus on themselves, we’re only young.” Maisy’s serious words were making Sophie smile.

She was trying to hide it, not wanting her sister to think she was laughing or not taking her seriously but it was amusing coming from a twelve year old.

It was clear that it was all due to her mum’s teachings and what she had picked up from Sophie, but she just seemed too young to have such a mindframe.

“You are so wise for a twelve year old Maise.” Sophie grinned before her sister smiled proudly back at her.

“Dad said I’m like you when you were my age.”

Looking over at her dad, Arlo was mimicking the grin causing Sophie to laugh.

“That’s probably true.”

Moving her chair up to be closer to her brother, Sophie then desperately tried to get his attention.

“You want some help Cam?” She asked, nudging his side and he finally looked up at her.

“No, you’re a girl. I need man advice.”

“Okay, so why not speak to dad? He’s stood right there with a very wise mind.” Sophie teased and Arlo began shaking his head.

“I’ve tried. He doesn’t want to listen to me.”

“Why not?” Sophie laughed yet Cameron wasn’t finding any of this funny. This was extremely serious to him.

“Because he’s too old to understand.” Cameron sighed, as if he was bored of having to explain this. “Is Aaron coming over? He’ll help.”

Cameron was unaware of what had happened so was just basing his question on what was natural.

However, Maisy did know considering she had been there when Sophie had walked in last night crying, so the shock on her face was unmissable.

“No Cameron.” She bit. “Aaron is not coming over. You are so inconsiderate!”

Placing a hand over her sister’s hand in attempt to show her appreciation but also calm her down, Sophie then looked to Cameron.

“No, he’s not but you can call him? You have his number don’t you?”

Cameron had built a close relationship with Aaron over the months and looked up to him like a big brother. He had a lot of respect for him and Aaron’s advice meant a lot to him. It may not seem like a serious matter to the rest of them considering he was only fourteen but it was a big deal to him and Aaron would take that into account.

“Yeah but I can’t call him.” Cameron responded as if the reasons for that were obvious.

“Why not?” Sophie asked, confused.

“Because that would be weird. Guys don’t call each other.”

“Do they not?” Sophie laughed. “Is that not cool anymore?”

Shaking his head, Cameron sat back in his chair, placing his phone on the table. His teenage years were proving to be difficult for everyone in this family.

“What about facetime? Is that cool enough or has everything got to be through text now?” She then suggested and it seemed like she had got somewhere.

“Yeah, I’ll do that.” He shrugged his shoulders, pushing himself up from the chair ready to head to his room.

“See. I do know what’s cool!” Sophie grinned, causing Cameron to finally show a smile as he began to laugh.

“You’re alright.” He laughed before leaving the room to get in touch with Aaron.

...

"Did he help?" Arlo asked when Cameron walked into the room a little bit later and joined them for breakfast.

"Yeah. He's going to come and pick me up in 20 minutes." Cameron spoke before grabbing some pancakes from the table.

"What are you doing?" Sophie then spoke up.

"He's going to take me to get her some flowers and then dropping me off at her house."

You could see the love in Sophie at just the mention of Aaron's efforts with her brother. Yet you could also see the hurt due to what had happened while she was desperately trying to force back her feelings.

"You can come with us if you want?" Cameron asked, noticing that something was wrong. "I'm sure you'll have better taste in flowers than us."

"No it's fine, I have to leave for work in a bit."

"Are you still meeting your mum, Sophie?" Arlo then asked considering they had been the original plans.

Sophie was not only going to work but she was choosing her apartment in London. But considering Estee was up there for business she was meeting her and was going to help her pick which place would be best.

"Yeah. I'll drive us both home too so she'll probably be here tonight."

"Finally!!" Maisy then called out. "I haven't seen mum in ages."

"That's because work is more important with her." Cameron rolled his eyes, silencing everyone.
