Well Lucie wrote a 1 and 1/2 chapters for it before deciding to write 2:1 instead! Because it was brought up to her, she found this one and gave it to me to post on here ;)
It's not fully finished and it was written a while ago so she said to keep that in mind.
Anyway... here it is!!
..........................................
It was a Friday night and what Sophie had hoped would be a
quiet one in so she could finish off an essay, turned out to be the complete
opposite. It was around 11pm when the loud voices of people coming through the
front door caught her attention.
She had previously been sprawled out on the bed, typing away
on her laptop, as she was completely lost in the words until her heart sunk.
Todd and his ‘friends’ were back from wherever they had been and Sophie didn’t
even need to guess what was going to happen next.
As part of his gang life that she despised, meetings were
essential and Todd had got into the bad habit of bringing everyone back here
for them to be held.
“Where is the alcohol Russle?” One of the guys shouted out
causing them all to applaud in agreement before the clinking of glasses were
heard.
Sophie was desperately trying to keep calm and ignore it as
she put her earphones in and turned her music up but it was no use. As the hours
passed, they just got louder and louder until the point where she couldn’t bear
it anymore. Not only were they distracting herself from working, she could
suddenly hear the screams of their two year old in the room next door.
Pushing herself off the bed in pure anger, Sophie charged
out of the room and suddenly caught the attention of everyone as they suddenly
turned around to look at her.
“Hey babe.” Todd placed his glass down on the table and
looked at her through his drunken gaze.
“Can you not hear that?” She bit, trying to ignore the gang
who had their eyes on her and instead focus on her boyfriend, who didn’t seem
to have a single care in the world.
“What the crying? Yeah, I was wondering when you were going
get your arse up and stop her.”
Todd’s comment made Sophie’s skin crawl as she absolutely
hated the way he spoke to her in front of his ‘friends’. It was always made
even worse when he was drunk because his mouth just seemed to fly away with
him.
“She’s crying because you’re all making so much noise. You
could be doing this in a pub somewhere; you don’t need to be doing it here.”
“Oh come on baby, you could join us.” Todd reached out to
take Sophie’s hand as he tried to urge her to sit down on his lap but she
pulled away.
“Yeah come on, Sophie!” Another of the guys spoke up with a
sickening look on his face as he eyed her up and down.
“Willow is crying.” Sophie pointed out as though that topic
of conversation had not yet been had.
Willow was Sophie and Todd’s daughter however, most of the
time Sophie felt like a single mum. Even though she was living with Todd and in
a relationship with him, he didn’t act like most would expect the father of
their child to act. He was selfish and he lived a dangerous lifestyle that he
was too caught up in to care about anything else.
Sophie on the other hand was a 22-year-old fashion student,
trying to look after her baby girl alongside working part time as a source of
income. However, this was something Todd liked to use against Sophie and turn
around to make it look as though he was doing her a favour.
He would always make a point of ensuring she remembered she
was living in his house and that she
obviously owed him because of it. He made it seem as though he was a saint for
providing a roof over their heads while she was just some useless student who
wasn’t capable of earning her own living.
“Go stop her from crying then.”
It took everything in Sophie’s power not to bite back with
something due to the way he was talking to her. However, she knew that it would
only make matters worse if she did so. Therefore, instead she turned around
before heading straight to Willow’s room.
…
“Shh baby, it’s okay.” She soothed as she walked into the
bedroom to see Willow screaming with tears running down her face.
Making her way over to the bed, Sophie lifted her up into
her arms and held her petite body so close to her own. She hated seeing her little
girl cry, it was the most painful feeling she had ever experienced. It made her
want to do everything and anything she could to get rid of it but when it
failed, it broke her heart even more.
“Mummy.” The two year old whimpered as she also held onto
Sophie so tightly.
“It’s okay, I’m here.”
As Willow began to calm down, Sophie finally felt a wave of
relief wash through her body. It wasn’t fair that she was living like this. She
didn’t choose to have a young mum who hadn’t figured her life out yet or a dad
who was too selfish to care. This innocent toddler had been brought into this
world unexpectedly and without any sort of plan set in place. Therefore, she
was now suffering because of it.
“How about you come and sleep with me tonight, yeah?” Sophie
grinned, causing Willow to instantly beam with excitement.
“Yes! Yes!” She began jumping up and down in Sophie’s arms
and her happiness was extremely appreciated right now.
“Let’s get out of here then.”
Tickling her side, Sophie was trying her hardest to fill
Willow with as many distractions as possible as they headed back into the
living room. She was shy enough around her own father, it would be even worse
around a group of his friends.
“Hey, cute kid.” A voice instantly spoke up the moment they
walked out of the bedroom. Willow buried her head into Sophie’s neck while she
took notice of the blonde dressed in all black leather, who went by the name of
Juliet.
She was slightly younger than the rest of them yet held the
same confidence and it was difficult to know if what she was saying was genuine
or not.
“Thanks. She takes after me.” Sophie remarked as she glanced
at Todd and Juliet began to laugh.
“I guess that makes her lucky. Who’d want to take after him?”
As Juliet made a small joke, she looked to Todd with a
grinning and flirtatious look across her face. It was one that instantly
fuelled Sophie with frustration and rightly so, as Todd didn’t hold back from
mimicking the expression back to her.
Turning on her heels with Willow still in her arms, Sophie
tried to make her escape. She didn’t want to be in this room with any of them.
Not only had this girl openly flirted with her boyfriend in front of her face,
this whole group were also far from the people she liked to hang around with.
“Where are you going?” Juliet called out, instantly
preventing Sophie from leaving as she reluctantly turned to face her.
“My room.”
“Why? What’s so wrong with hanging out here?”
“Um… I have a two year old?” Sophie replied, wondering how
that wasn’t already an obvious explanation.
“You mean… you think we’re not good enough.” Juliet bit
back, as though her previous politeness had all been an act.
“No, because you’re all drinking and smoking, which I’d
rather not let her be around.”
Juliet was now looking at Sophie with a face full of disgust,
showing that she truly did not appreciate the words leaving her lips. She was
stood with her arms crossed over her chest and pursed her bright pink lips as
she tried to look intimidating.
“Why are you even dating Todd then if you don’t want to be
around him?”
“Excuse me?” Sophie questioned, confused at her sudden need
to flip the topic and begin making assumptions.
“You heard me… we all know you think you’re too good for us.
You never show your face when we’re around and I’ve never seen your daughter
until now. So why are you with him?”
Sophie wanted to bite back with something smart to knock the
pettiness out of this girl but that was difficult to do when she couldn’t
answer the question. She didn’t know why she was with Todd, she didn’t know why
she still stuck around when he treated her like rubbish. It seemed to mostly
boil down to the fact that they had a daughter together and he kept a roof over
their heads but she couldn’t admit that out loud.
“Because I love him.” Sophie bit back, yet hated her
pathetic answer the moment she said it.
Juliet seemed amused as a small smile spread across her lips
before she leaned herself up against the back of the sofa.
“Right, so if you love him so much you’d know everything
about what we do…” She began and the tone in her voice gave off the fact that
this was going to come off as some sort of lecture. “If he loved you just as
much too, he would have filled you in on every single detail about this lifestyle
and how to protect yourself if he’s not there.”
Sophie didn’t say a word and just watched Juliet as she
continued to speak.
"Has
he told you about Jess and Jay?" She then asked, sparking Todd’s attention
and causing him to instantly interrupt.
"This
is none of her fucking business, Juliet. Don’t even bother." He bit, seeming
aggravated. "Soph, just go back in the bedroom.”
Sophie
looked back at Todd with wide eyes and frustration at his need to always tell
her what to do. However, Juliet seemed to blank his words and continued talking
to her anyway.
"They
are the ones you should be looking out for."
"Who
are Jess and Jay?" Sophie asked, genuinely curious due to the way she had
set this up.
"Gang
members... who want us all gone." Juliet began with a tense tone in her
voice. She was clearly loving to dramatise this as though they were in some
movie. "They could have us all dead in a second if they wanted to. Together,
they're truly unbeatable."
"No
they couldn't." Todd interrupted sounding offended before taking hold of
Juliet's hand and trying to urge her back.
Sophie's
eyes trailed down and watched as it soon went around her waist and she felt her
skin crawl with anger. While he continued to squeeze her side playfully, Juliet’s
lips trailed so close to his neck as she whispered something in his ear before
beginning to laugh.
She wasn’t
trying to mask what could potentially be going on here and what made it worse
was that Sophie couldn’t bring herself to say anything. She had no willpower to
stick up for herself and stop whatever was happening. Instead, she just held Willow
closer to her body and headed back off to the bedroom.
