Spin Off Chapter No. 3

“What the fuck were you thinking?” Todd bit the moment he came into the café.

Sophie had text him as soon as Jess and Jay left and although he had appreciated the heads up, he hadn’t been too pleased that she had been the one to give everything away. His text back had been blunt, demanding to know where she was before he quickly left the house so they wouldn’t find him.

“You could have got me killed!”

As Todd took a seat down on the sofa beside Willow, she naturally shifted away from him.

“I’m sorry! I didn’t know what to do. They were threatening to hurt Willow.” Sophie stressed as his eyes then travelled down to the little girl.

“They are going to tear that fucking place apart.”

Holding his hands out towards the two year old, Todd was trying to urge her over to him but she was reluctant. Instead, she looked up to Sophie before back to Todd’s arms, as though she was trying to judge her mum’s actions around him.

Sophie always tried her hardest to reassure Willow that her dad was a safe base. She wanted them to have a relationship and for her to feel comfortable around him however, that was difficult to do when he didn’t put much effort in himself.

He picked and chose his moments when he wanted to pay her attention and be loving towards her therefore, she had built up an nervous and unsure view of him.

“It’s okay.” Sophie tried to reassure Willow and help urge her into Todd’s arms.

Taking her mum’s actions as a confidence boost that everything was okay, Willow then carefully moved a little bit closer to Todd. Her hand was still clinging onto Sophie’s as she did so and it broke her heart watching how messed up their relationship was.

She shouldn’t fear or feel uncomfortable around her own dad but their relationship had come to this due to the little effort he put in.

“Were they going to hurt you?” Todd asked as he took Willow into his arms.

She was looking at him carefully, as though she was truly studying every aspect of him. He was basically a stranger to her so she never knew how to act with him.

“They threatened to hurt one of us and your mum chose me.”

Biting down on her lip, Sophie was instantly fuelled with anger by not only Todd’s words but the tone in his voice. He was still angry at Sophie for telling them where they lived, as though she had much choice.

It frustrated how he didn’t see things like any other father would and didn’t have that natural inclination to protect his own little girl. Instead, he was selfish and bitter, only putting in the effort when he felt like it.

“That wasn’t very nice was it?”

“Todd.” Sophie demanded his attention and Willow noticed her mum’s tone so instantly began to pull and shove her way out of his arms.

Todd suddenly looked annoyed that she didn’t want to be with him and tried to keep her close, yet she just refused. Pulling out of his arms, she made her way back over to Sophie, who did not waste any time in letting her sit the other side.

“Look baby, you haven’t finished this yet.” Sophie held her half-eaten biscuit towards her as a distraction and a smile was then spread across Willow’s previously distressed face.

“Thank you.” She grinned as she took it from Sophie’s hand causing her to give a loving smile back in return.

“You make her hate me.” Todd accused as he watched the two of them. “You complain that I don’t have a fucking relationship with her but then you do shit like this.”

Turning back to face him, Sophie looked at Todd as though he was insane. She never understood how he came up with the most bizarre conclusions and never saw anything as his own fault. He was stuck in his own head and was really good at throwing out blame to everyone else, with herself being the main line of fire.

“How have I ever done that?” Sophie questioned, practically demanding an explanation from him.

“You’re the one who does stuff to upset her. You never even try and then when you do, you mess it up.”

“You don’t give me a chance. She never leaves your side.”

“No, you never try.”

There was silence for a moment while this ‘family’ of three sat in this café among many other individuals going about their day. As Sophie let her eyes wander, she took in the happy couples, the groups of friends and families all enjoying an afternoon out in this unique café overlooking the sea. However, when she looked back to her own table, all she saw was a broken mess, a dysfunctional ‘family’ that stood out from all the rest.

It was one of the reasons she enjoyed coming in here with Willow so often as she could sit back and imagine what her life could have been like. She’d looked at the different families and imagined that was her. She’d look at the couples and imagine what she and Todd could have been like if he wasn’t the way he was. She’d look at the groups of friends and imagine what life would have been like if she’d never even met him.

However, as she lapped up the fantasy of a different life, she was always brought back to her own. She knew she would never change it for the world because then she wouldn’t have Willow. However, she wished things could have been so much different than they were with Todd. She wished she could get up on her own two feet and not have to rely on him as much as she did.
“Whatever. I need to get the fuck out of here.” Todd then remarked as he noticed that particular blonde heading into the café.

It was Juliet.

She had her hair scraped back into a tight ponytail, her usual black leather attire on and knee high boots which made her entrance noticed the moment she walked through the doors.

Standing to his feet, Todd was looking at Sophie as her attention had now drifted to Juliet. He could see the lack of appreciation in her eyes because of her presence, causing him to sigh.

“Don’t go back to the house, alright?” He leaned across the table to press his lips to hers.

Sophie kissed him back but there was a lack of emotions behind it.

“Keep her away until I text and say it’s safe.” Todd continued as he made his way over to Willow.

The little girl instantly froze, as she was not sure how to react. However, Todd persisted to get closer so he could press his lips to her forehead. This was the first time Sophie had seen him pay her any real affection for a long time and it sent a wave of butterflies to rush through her stomach.

That ‘fatherly’ presence was all she ever wanted. She didn’t ever want Willow missing out on that.
“Okay.” Sophie muttered as she just watched them both but her ‘in the clouds’ moment was suddenly cut short when Juliet approached.

“You ready?” She asked Todd as her hand was placed onto his shoulder.

Turning around to look at her, Todd gave her a quick nod as his own hand wound around her waist and urged her into a hug. Sophie couldn’t help but feel sick with jealousy every time he was around her. He would act and touch in the most inappropriate ways considering he was supposed to be in a relationship, causing Sophie to feel more insecure than ever.

“Well done for tipping them off.” Juliet then looked to Sophie with a sarcastic tone in her voice. “I did warn you.”

“I had no choice. It was either that or my daughter.” Sophie quipped; not prepared to be talked down to once again.

“Ah, I would have chosen the girl. She hasn’t been around for that long so she wouldn’t be missing out on much.”

“I hope you’re joking!” Sophie quipped with anger as she began to stand to her feet.

Todd instantly reached out to place his hand against her shoulder as he tried to urge her back down to her seat but it didn’t work. Sophie continued to try and push and shove him before he had to physically hold onto her body to calm her down.

“Stop. She was fucking joking. Just sit down.” Todd ordered as his hands then cupped the bottom of her face as he tried to get Sophie to look at him.

He was fuming by this point but she didn’t care because so was she.

“She wasn’t joking. I know she wasn’t.”

“All I’m saying…” Juliet began as she leaned over Todd so Sophie could see her clearly. It was difficult to miss her though considering her usual bright pink lipstick was glaring at her in the face. “…is that you were being a tad bit selfish only thinking of your daughter. You’re supposed to be looking out for this guy too if you expect him to do the same for you two.”

When Todd didn’t even jump to his own daughter’s defence, Sophie felt her whole body give up. She didn’t expect Juliet to understand but Willow was Todd’s own flesh and blood yet he still acted as though she was nothing.

“We need to go, so sit down and relax.” Todd ran his thumb across Sophie’s bottom lip before guiding her back to her seat. “I’ll text you later.”

Taking one last glimpse at Willow, Todd then took hold of Juliet’s hand before guiding her out of the café in a rush. Sophie watched as they both ran off down the street before jumping into his car and driving away.

She just sat completely still and silent as she let the emotions wash through her and cause so much pain and unhappiness. She didn’t know what she was doing with her life. She had completely lost all sense of direction and felt like each day she was losing more and more of herself.

She wanted things between herself and Todd to work. She wanted them to be like one of the happy families she saw come in here on a daily basis but it never worked that way. Instead, she was watched him act so selfishly and run around with other girls while she stupidly sat back and didn’t say a thing.

“Mummy?” The quiet and innocence voice of Willow was heard as she climbed onto Sophie’s lap.

Her small hand reached out to touch her cheek as Sophie turned to look at her.

“Yes baby?” She asked and it was in that moment that the tears began to fall from her eyes.

“Mummy.” Willow repeated as her bottom lip pouted in sadness for the misery she was seeing in her mum. “I love you. I love you.” She kept saying on repeat as Sophie tried to recollect herself and say it back.

She didn’t want Willow to see her like this. She wanted her little girl to be protected from all this hurt and for her to believe that everything was okay. She deserved that after everything she had been through yet it was getting more and more difficult to hold onto that act.

Another spin off chapter!

“Sophie Carter isn’t it?” A deep voice spoke, sending a chill throughout her body.

Quickly looking up to face whoever had suddenly approached her table, Sophie took note of his extreme height that would tower above her if she were standing. This man was dressed in all black to match his dark eyes and he had a scar running down the side of his cheek. He had a strange aura about him that instantly made her reach out to clutch Willow close.

They were currently sat in quiet and friendly café that overlooked the sea, completely minding their own business and taking a step back from the world. However, this interruption ruined the peace the moment the man took a seat across the table from them.

As he sat back in the chair and didn’t say anything Sophie was beginning to panic. She was not sure who this guy was, what he wanted or what he was doing here, yet she could not find her words to question it.

“Oh good, you found her.” Another voice was heard, yet a female this time and the woman made herself comfy on the seat beside this strange guy.

“It doesn’t look like she knows how to speak yet though.” The guy remarked, suddenly angering Sophie.

She was walked all over daily by a guy who was meant to ‘love’ her; she did not appreciate having that done by a stranger too.

“I know how to speak perfectly well, thank you.”

“Ah great! See, you didn’t give her a chance.” The woman then grinned, before running a hand through her black hair.

She had striking features, which she enhanced with the choice of makeup she wore. Her lashes were long, her contoured cheekbones were unmissable and her red lips would stand out from a mile away. She was gorgeous.

“I’m Jess.” She held her hand out towards Sophie. “And this is Jay.”

The moment she spoke those words, Sophie felt her heart drop and she thought she was going to throw up. ‘Jess and Jay’ had been the names Juliet had told her about the other night. They had been the two people she had sworn they should fear and stay away from yet here she was, face to face with them both.

By this point, Sophie was not even going to give them chance to say another word. Taking hold of Willow, she began pushing herself up from the table and attempting to charge out of the café. However, the pair clearly had other plans as Jay stood up to block their way before insisting she sat back down.

“We just need your attention for a few minutes.” He quipped, as Sophie fearfully took a seat back down onto the sofa.

By this point Willow was getting extremely agitated as she was trying to climb off Sophie’s lap and run around. However, not wanting to create a scene nor wanting either Jess or Jay to touch her, she tried to keep her daughter close to her body.

“You’re Sophie Carter aren’t you?” Jess asked, with a much more calming tone than Jay seemed to hold. “…and this is your daughter Willow?”

Although she knew they were not stupid, Sophie felt herself instantly shaking her head and trying to deny it. She didn’t know what they wanted but she wanted to get out of here.

“There is no use in denying it darling, we already know.”

Reaching for her phone in her bag, Sophie began frantically trying to bring up Todd’s number so she could call him. She hoped he would come running to save them from whatever this was but her trust in him was limited.

“Ah, ah.” Jay’s hand instantly flew out to place over Sophie’s phone. “This will only take a second.”

“What do you want?” Sophie muttered, letting it go and pulling her hand back. “You’re scaring my daughter; can you please just let me go?”

Glimpsing to Willow and then to Sophie, Jay held the most cunning smile across his face. He was trying to be intimidating and it was definitely working.

“We want to know where Todd is.”

“I don’t know where he is.”

“Don’t lie to us.” Jay demanded as his hand slammed against the table causing the contents on it to shake.

The loud noise caused Willow to jump before clinging onto Sophie as she started to cry. They were causing a scene and people were beginning to stare. She wanted to shout out for help, to let people know she was in an unwanted situation however; she wasn’t sure how Jess and Jay would react.

“I promise you. He never tells me anything.”

“But you do live with him…” Jess insisted. “…so tell us where that is.”

Taking a deep breath, Sophie then began shaking her head.

Juliet had made it pretty clear that these two people were not to be trusted therefore, she knew that Todd wouldn’t appreciate her telling them the truth. She wasn’t sure what mess he had got himself into but she didn’t want to rile him up more or put him in danger.

“Just tell us where you live or I can’t promise that you or your daughter won’t get hurt.” Jay added, not holding as much patience as Jess and getting increasingly aggravated.

“You can’t…”

“Hurt Willow?” He looked to the blonde girl who had her head buried into Sophie’s chest. “It’s either her or Todd. That’s your choice.”

There was no question in Sophie’s mind on what option she would pick, it did not even need a second to be debated. Therefore, she didn’t waste any time in giving out the address to their home and knowing it was exactly where Todd was now.

She knew she’d have to text him to give him a heads up but she was terrified of the response she was going to get. However, with the situation she had been placed in, that was the last of Sophie’s worries.

“Good. That wasn’t difficult now was it?” Jay snarled and placed his hand on Jess’ leg before they both began to stand up.

“Just please promise me you won’t come near my daughter.” Sophie found herself instantly begging in desperation and fear.

Now that the idea had been planted in her mind, she was struggling to get it out. She knew Todd’s lifestyle was dangerous and it was always a risk being with him but it had never caused much threat until now.

“We’ll have no reason to harm her.” Jess spoke and her voice was much gentler than Jay’s, which was appreciated.

She looked somewhat sorry for Sophie as she sat before them in complete fear, just wanting to protect her little girl.

“And isn’t it Todd’s job to keep her safe considering it’s his daughter?” Jay questioned with an implied tone.

Sophie wasn’t sure how well he knew Todd but he clearly had him figured out all wrong.
“He doesn’t care about her, so please just promise me.”

Shrugging his shoulders, Jay didn’t say a word before allowing Jess to leave in front of him. His hand scaled down her back as she let hers travel behind to take his. It hadn’t been obvious at first if they were an official couple or not but there was a bit more conformation now.

She didn’t know whose these two individuals were or what they wanted with Todd but they were terrifying and that was enough to start all the alarm bells ringing.

Well Lucie wrote a 1 and 1/2 chapters for it before deciding to write 2:1 instead! Because it was brought up to her, she found this one and gave it to me to post on here ;)

It's not fully finished and it was written a while ago so she said to keep that in mind.

Anyway... here it is!!

..........................................

It was a Friday night and what Sophie had hoped would be a quiet one in so she could finish off an essay, turned out to be the complete opposite. It was around 11pm when the loud voices of people coming through the front door caught her attention.

She had previously been sprawled out on the bed, typing away on her laptop, as she was completely lost in the words until her heart sunk. Todd and his ‘friends’ were back from wherever they had been and Sophie didn’t even need to guess what was going to happen next.

As part of his gang life that she despised, meetings were essential and Todd had got into the bad habit of bringing everyone back here for them to be held.

“Where is the alcohol Russle?” One of the guys shouted out causing them all to applaud in agreement before the clinking of glasses were heard.

Sophie was desperately trying to keep calm and ignore it as she put her earphones in and turned her music up but it was no use. As the hours passed, they just got louder and louder until the point where she couldn’t bear it anymore. Not only were they distracting herself from working, she could suddenly hear the screams of their two year old in the room next door.

Pushing herself off the bed in pure anger, Sophie charged out of the room and suddenly caught the attention of everyone as they suddenly turned around to look at her.

“Hey babe.” Todd placed his glass down on the table and looked at her through his drunken gaze.

“Can you not hear that?” She bit, trying to ignore the gang who had their eyes on her and instead focus on her boyfriend, who didn’t seem to have a single care in the world.

“What the crying? Yeah, I was wondering when you were going get your arse up and stop her.”

Todd’s comment made Sophie’s skin crawl as she absolutely hated the way he spoke to her in front of his ‘friends’. It was always made even worse when he was drunk because his mouth just seemed to fly away with him.

“She’s crying because you’re all making so much noise. You could be doing this in a pub somewhere; you don’t need to be doing it here.”

“Oh come on baby, you could join us.” Todd reached out to take Sophie’s hand as he tried to urge her to sit down on his lap but she pulled away.

“Yeah come on, Sophie!” Another of the guys spoke up with a sickening look on his face as he eyed her up and down.

“Willow is crying.” Sophie pointed out as though that topic of conversation had not yet been had.

Willow was Sophie and Todd’s daughter however, most of the time Sophie felt like a single mum. Even though she was living with Todd and in a relationship with him, he didn’t act like most would expect the father of their child to act. He was selfish and he lived a dangerous lifestyle that he was too caught up in to care about anything else.

Sophie on the other hand was a 22-year-old fashion student, trying to look after her baby girl alongside working part time as a source of income. However, this was something Todd liked to use against Sophie and turn around to make it look as though he was doing her a favour.

He would always make a point of ensuring she remembered she was living in his house and that she obviously owed him because of it. He made it seem as though he was a saint for providing a roof over their heads while she was just some useless student who wasn’t capable of earning her own living.

“Go stop her from crying then.”

It took everything in Sophie’s power not to bite back with something due to the way he was talking to her. However, she knew that it would only make matters worse if she did so. Therefore, instead she turned around before heading straight to Willow’s room.

“Shh baby, it’s okay.” She soothed as she walked into the bedroom to see Willow screaming with tears running down her face.

Making her way over to the bed, Sophie lifted her up into her arms and held her petite body so close to her own. She hated seeing her little girl cry, it was the most painful feeling she had ever experienced. It made her want to do everything and anything she could to get rid of it but when it failed, it broke her heart even more.

“Mummy.” The two year old whimpered as she also held onto Sophie so tightly.

“It’s okay, I’m here.”

As Willow began to calm down, Sophie finally felt a wave of relief wash through her body. It wasn’t fair that she was living like this. She didn’t choose to have a young mum who hadn’t figured her life out yet or a dad who was too selfish to care. This innocent toddler had been brought into this world unexpectedly and without any sort of plan set in place. Therefore, she was now suffering because of it.

“How about you come and sleep with me tonight, yeah?” Sophie grinned, causing Willow to instantly beam with excitement.

“Yes! Yes!” She began jumping up and down in Sophie’s arms and her happiness was extremely appreciated right now.

“Let’s get out of here then.”

Tickling her side, Sophie was trying her hardest to fill Willow with as many distractions as possible as they headed back into the living room. She was shy enough around her own father, it would be even worse around a group of his friends.

“Hey, cute kid.” A voice instantly spoke up the moment they walked out of the bedroom. Willow buried her head into Sophie’s neck while she took notice of the blonde dressed in all black leather, who went by the name of Juliet.

She was slightly younger than the rest of them yet held the same confidence and it was difficult to know if what she was saying was genuine or not.

“Thanks. She takes after me.” Sophie remarked as she glanced at Todd and Juliet began to laugh.

“I guess that makes her lucky. Who’d want to take after him?”

As Juliet made a small joke, she looked to Todd with a grinning and flirtatious look across her face. It was one that instantly fuelled Sophie with frustration and rightly so, as Todd didn’t hold back from mimicking the expression back to her.

Turning on her heels with Willow still in her arms, Sophie tried to make her escape. She didn’t want to be in this room with any of them. Not only had this girl openly flirted with her boyfriend in front of her face, this whole group were also far from the people she liked to hang around with.

“Where are you going?” Juliet called out, instantly preventing Sophie from leaving as she reluctantly turned to face her.

“My room.”

“Why? What’s so wrong with hanging out here?”

“Um… I have a two year old?” Sophie replied, wondering how that wasn’t already an obvious explanation.

“You mean… you think we’re not good enough.” Juliet bit back, as though her previous politeness had all been an act.

“No, because you’re all drinking and smoking, which I’d rather not let her be around.”

Juliet was now looking at Sophie with a face full of disgust, showing that she truly did not appreciate the words leaving her lips. She was stood with her arms crossed over her chest and pursed her bright pink lips as she tried to look intimidating.

“Why are you even dating Todd then if you don’t want to be around him?”

“Excuse me?” Sophie questioned, confused at her sudden need to flip the topic and begin making assumptions.

“You heard me… we all know you think you’re too good for us. You never show your face when we’re around and I’ve never seen your daughter until now. So why are you with him?”

Sophie wanted to bite back with something smart to knock the pettiness out of this girl but that was difficult to do when she couldn’t answer the question. She didn’t know why she was with Todd, she didn’t know why she still stuck around when he treated her like rubbish. It seemed to mostly boil down to the fact that they had a daughter together and he kept a roof over their heads but she couldn’t admit that out loud.

“Because I love him.” Sophie bit back, yet hated her pathetic answer the moment she said it.

Juliet seemed amused as a small smile spread across her lips before she leaned herself up against the back of the sofa.

“Right, so if you love him so much you’d know everything about what we do…” She began and the tone in her voice gave off the fact that this was going to come off as some sort of lecture. “If he loved you just as much too, he would have filled you in on every single detail about this lifestyle and how to protect yourself if he’s not there.”

Sophie didn’t say a word and just watched Juliet as she continued to speak.

"Has he told you about Jess and Jay?" She then asked, sparking Todd’s attention and causing him to instantly interrupt.

"This is none of her fucking business, Juliet. Don’t even bother." He bit, seeming aggravated. "Soph, just go back in the bedroom.”

Sophie looked back at Todd with wide eyes and frustration at his need to always tell her what to do. However, Juliet seemed to blank his words and continued talking to her anyway.

"They are the ones you should be looking out for."

"Who are Jess and Jay?" Sophie asked, genuinely curious due to the way she had set this up.

"Gang members... who want us all gone." Juliet began with a tense tone in her voice. She was clearly loving to dramatise this as though they were in some movie. "They could have us all dead in a second if they wanted to. Together, they're truly unbeatable."

"No they couldn't." Todd interrupted sounding offended before taking hold of Juliet's hand and trying to urge her back.

Sophie's eyes trailed down and watched as it soon went around her waist and she felt her skin crawl with anger. While he continued to squeeze her side playfully, Juliet’s lips trailed so close to his neck as she whispered something in his ear before beginning to laugh.

She wasn’t trying to mask what could potentially be going on here and what made it worse was that Sophie couldn’t bring herself to say anything. She had no willpower to stick up for herself and stop whatever was happening. Instead, she just held Willow closer to her body and headed back off to the bedroom.
